STUDENTS
Unless accompanied by a teacher with a class, all students MUST SIGN IN as they enter the library.
Students are free to come to the library before or after their school day, most days we are open from 8:40-3:30pm, at their schools' open lunch periods, or with a legible pass from a teacher during class time.
Students may schedule individual conference time with the librarian in advance by emailing jhermus@schools.nyc.gov.
Students may check out 5 books at a time for a period of 2 weeks.
Students must wear headphones when listening to music or playing video games.
Students must respect the library as a safe space and treat peers, librarian, and library with care and respect which looks like:
Putting trash in the garbage cans
Returning any items moved or borrowed
Maintaining a volume that allows others to work or collaborate
Refraining from rough housing, sports, running, or throwing items in the space
Using language that can be seen as offensive
TEACHERS
By checking the ONLINE CALENDAR on the library website and scheduling in advance with the librarian, teachers may bring classes to the library to check out books, work on research, collaborate with librarian on instruction, work on projects, etc.
Teachers may send small groups of students with passes to the library to check out books or work on research or other projects during class time without formally scheduling. However, checking in day-of is a good idea, as the library may be closed, or the librarian may be teaching.
Planning ahead and collaborating with the librarian on research projects has the best results! Let’s talk in advance about what you want to accomplish in the library. It's ideal to have at least two weeks lead time when gathering resources to support projects.
BOOK RETURNS
HOW TO RETURN BOOKS:
You can come bring books to the library and drop them at the circulation desk or in the "Book Return" box outside the library during off hours.
We can arrange with English teachers to hold books in class to be picked up by the librarian or library interns on a weekly basis.
OVERDUE BOOKS: There is no penalty for books returned late, we are just happy to have them back! If you would like to renew and extend a late book just let the librarian know!
LOST BOOKS: There are no penalties for lost books but we do appreciate letting us know so we can mark it as lost and consider replacing it.
