Due to events there might not be open access for students every day and hours may change.
The library is closed to students during librarian prep and/or lunch, please do not send students without calling first.
Student sign-in is needed to enter the library outside of class visits, events, or quick book returns.
During normal class time, students cannot be unaccompanied in the library without notifying Jenn the librarian or with a distinct and clear pass.
Any passes from the library will feature the library logo and a distinct signature stamp.
TEACHERS
By checking the ONLINE CALENDAR on the library website and scheduling in advance, teachers may bring classes to the library to check out books, work on research, collaborate with librarian on instruction, work on projects, etc.
If you would like to bring your class for a library orientation lesson, another library skills lesson, or a lesson collaboration, please call or email me to schedule a day and time.
For lessons other than an orientation please give me at least a week notice to be sure I create a distinct presentation to fit your needs.
I am happy to work together or tweak any lesson to meet your requests or support your vision.
To bring students for book check outs please schedule in advance or call to ensure availability. I can have activities prepared for students who check-out books and are waiting for others or develop curated selections to assist in book acquisition.
You can also invite me to visit your classroom for a lesson/presentation, to bring a curated selection of books for in-class check out, or to pick up book returns if students cannot make it to the library throughout their day.
STUDENTS
Unless accompanied by a teacher with a class, all students MUST SIGN IN as they enter the library.
Students may schedule individual conference time with the librarian in advance by emailing jhermus@schools.nyc.gov.
Students may check out 5 books at a time for a period of 2 weeks.
Students should wear headphones when listening to music or playing video games.
Students must respect the library as a safe space and treat peers, librarian, and library with care and respect which looks like:
Putting trash in the garbage cans
Returning any items moved or borrowed
Maintaining a volume that allows others to work or collaborate
Refraining from rough housing, sports, running, or throwing items in the space
Using language that can be seen as offensive.
BOOK RETURNS
HOW TO RETURN BOOKS:
You can come bring books to the library and drop them at the circulation desk or in the "Book Return" box outside the library during off hours.
We can arrange with English teachers to hold books in class to be picked up by the librarian or library interns on a weekly basis.
OVERDUE BOOKS: There is no penalty for books returned late, we are just happy to have them back! If you would like to renew and extend a late book just let the librarian know!
LOST BOOKS: There are no penalties for lost books but we do appreciate letting us know so we can mark it as lost and consider replacing it.
